Rivulet is a medium sized mining city found on the vast Eastern mountain ranges. Being in a remote location and housing a wide range of valuable minerals, the city was subject to constant raids by bandits and monsters. Rivulet formed a special sniper unit to boost their defenses, the Rivulet Ranged Unit. Harboring some of the best marksmen in the world, the RRU has been more than able to stand ground to defend their beloved city.

Aside from marksmanship, members of the ranged unit are rigorously trained to traverse the rocky terrain of the surrounding rocky formations, mountains, and canyons. Because of this, members of the ranged unit travel lightly (except for those carrying heavier firearms), wearing no armor and heavy packs. This enables them to position themselves at the most unreachable and advantageous spots, significantly reducing the chance of counter attacks.


Crank
Crank, an ex-footman squad leader, leads the unit into combat. He also oversees the unit's training, making sure they are in a constant state of hell. He likes close combat more than sniping from afar so he usually runs down to the battlefield, right into the fray. This is very odd for the leader of a ranged unit, but he still gets things done so no one is complaining.


Guns and Swords
With the invention of plate armor piercing rounds, guns dominated the battlefield making swords and shields utterly useless... for a time. That was until Aeternite was developed. It was a special alloy that stopped these bullets cold. Though cheap and easy to manufacture, it was thick and heavy. Swords and shields once again graced the battlefield. It became a common strategy to send heavily armored melee fighters to engage and disrupt the enemy while the marksmen took their time to aim for vulnerable parts in the armor or to just disrupt enemy movement.
